Cinema Goes Underground

Secret Cinema The Battle of Algiers
Do you ever feel that the big-screen experience these days is lacking a little je ne sais quoi?

Last month I was lucky enough to attend the latest Secret Cinema event: a screening of Gillo Pontecorvo’s The Battle of Algiers. The venue was the Old Vic Tunnels — complete with guns, burkhas and mocked-up torture scenes. I managed to avoid a lengthy interrogation but others were not so lucky!

For film fans in search of new experiences, Secret Cinema is the perfect antidote to the banality of the multiplex experience. You can read my report here at Sound on Sight.
